Boy Meets Girl
We had a romantic start to a wonderful relationship. Mr. D works in law enforcement and I work in health care. Mr.D would bring certain people into the er to get cleared. The first time he brought someone in he caught my eye. Unfortunately we were both in a relationship and we didn't act on anything. A couple of years later Mr. D brought a person in and caught my eye again. My best friend at the time walked up to him with his name on a piece of paper and asked him, "Do you know what's missing?" He shook his head no. She says," Your phone number." He looked at her very warily. She smiles and says," Not for me for my friend." He says "Who is your friend?" She says," Future Ms. D!" He says, "I don't know who that is, I'm really bad with names." She says," You talk to her all the time!" So she comes over to me while I was wearing a paper gown to protect myself from the ER and she writes my name in permenant marker across my chest and tells me to go stand in front of him. I was like No!! So I ran across the ER with my best friend running after me pointing at me. So started out relationship. He asked me out and things just ran from there.
The Proposal
I cried like a baby.
We have been together for 3 1/2 years. We took a family vacation for spring break. We went with him, myself, my two boys, his parents, and his little cousin. We rented a beautiful cabin. I was a beautiful 3 level cabin and every morning there were turkeys out struting and Mr. D, being an avid hunter, was dying to get out there with those turkeys. His Dad, being the silly guy he is, called the family out onto the patio for a "family meeting". He said it was a family tradition to sit and talk about the goals and rules of the trip and being that we had three boys ages 8, 9, 10, I didn't mind a few rules laid out. He said the typical no fighting have a good time stuff and asked Mr. D if he had anything to add. He wanted to find out who owned the property the turkeys were on so he could go down and hunt one of them. Then he got down on his knee next to me and asked if I would wear this ring and handed me the ring box. As soon as I saw the box I started to cry. It seemed like slow motion.
He took the ring out and put it on my finger. Of course I said Yes. The boys were asking what just happend, Did we just get married with smiles. We said no we got engaged. They were so excited that they get a new stepdad and a new cousin. We spent the rest of the week of vacation enjoying each other and our families.
